Falkland Islands Travel - Falkland Attractions: Stanley
StanleyStanley is the smallest and most remote capital city in the world.
With a population of about 2000 inhabitants, it is the usual point where tours around the islands either start, or finish. The city was built on a north-facing slope to catch the sun throughout the year, and looks across the Stanley harbour, wealthy of sea-birds.
Stanley is an ideal location from which to explore East Falkland. Places like Volunteer Point, the most accesible king penguin colony in the world, and other wildlife hot-spots like Gypsy Cove are among the favourite ones. Camp settlements (everything outside Stanley is called "camp"), such as Darwin, Goose Green, San Carlos, Port Louis or Salvador, can be visited from Stanley as a full day tour.
Several cruise ships call in summer, so early booking for excursions and tours is a must.
